Occupations can sometimes cause a higher risk concern to a life insurance company
- Heights – working at heights over 40 feet often attract a risk rating
- Working with explosives
- Offshire Oil and Gas industry - depending on duties
- Water – fishing or diving occupations
- Armed forces - as a general rule if you are not under active orders then standard rates would be available. Under active orders then cover is unlikely to be available
Hazardous hobbies can also cause concern
- Flying – other than a fare paying passenger. Very much depends on experience and hours in the air
- Skydiving
- Underwater diving
- Motor sports
- Sailing
This is not an exhaustive list and not all will attract a medical rating, but information will be required by the insurance company
